Concert promoter Frank Productions has teamed up with music streaming and discovery app LÜM in a strategic partnership between the two Madison, Wis.-based companies that promises to bridge the gap between live and digital music consumption.
“The mission of Frank Productions is connecting artists with fans and helping them have fun since 1964,” Frank Productions CEO Joel Plant said in a statement. “The LÜM app is a tool for both artists and fans to connect with one another and share and discover new music together. We’re very excited about this venture and look forward to what our unique partnership can build for fans and artists.”
In conjunction with the partnership Dan Polans, Director of Business Intelligence at Frank Productions, has joined the LÜM Board of Directors.
He said, “The partnership allows us to explore trends and patterns in emerging music to help both the Frank Productions and LÜM teams make better, faster and stronger data-driven decisions.”
Along with news of the partnership, LÜM announced Monday that the tech startup had closed its seed round with a total investment of $1.2 million in less than a year.
LÜM focuses on emerging artists and is touted as an alternative to traditional streaming models, as music on the platform is “freed from the digital algorithms and agendas that bury almost all non-mainstream music,” according to the announcement.
A beta version of LÜM is available at lum.fm and it will launch nationally this summer via the Apple App Store.

Frank Productions sold a majority interest to Live Nation in January 2018.
