Gucci Mane Hits The Road

Despite being active in the rap game for more than 15 years, Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has never had a full-fledged headline tour … until now. The trap master has announced a run of U.S. dates longer than anything we’ve seen from him before this spring.

In an interview with CR Men’s Book, the artist recently said he wants to capture the vibe of a Flaming Lips concert. “’I’m not saying I want to do it just like they did it, but I want people to feel like that when they come to my show,” he said. “I just want it to be like a big party. I want people to sweat. I don’t want people to come trying to look all pretty. No, I want you to leave the concert wet as hell, like you’ve been working out for damn near an hour and a half.” Fun fact: that interview was conducted by Marilyn Manson.

The performances start at House of Blues Boston on April 5 and wrap up with two nights at JMBLYA festival in Dallas May 5 and Austin May 6. He also has two appearances scheduled at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

Gucci has been a prolific recording artist over the years, with three mixtapes, three EPs and two albums released in 2016 alone. He’s also unleashed collaborations with some of hip hop’s biggest names, like Drake and Kanye West, in the past few months.

Mane’s skill on the microphone is matched only by his penchant for getting into trouble. He has served multiple jail sentences, and was released from his prison bid in September last year, an event that was widely celebrated in the hip hop community.

Despite his legal troubles, Gucci Mane has been one of the progenitors of the “trap” style of rap that is now launching the careers of dozens of young rappers from his region into the stratosphere. He finally charted a #1 radio hit in “Black Beatles,” his collaboration with Rae Sremmurd.
