Ian Anderson Continues Jethro Tull 50-Year Anniversary Celebration Into 2019

Because he’s not done yet, Ian Anderson’s 50 Years Of Jethro Tull tour will ramble on in North America and Europe next year.
The party continues in Europe from Jan. 16 in the Ukraine to March 1 in Denmark, and picks up in Europe through late March and April. The North American dates start in the Northeastern U.S. March 9 in Atlantic City, N.J., head to California in July and finish with more Northeast in September.
The band on tour will consist of Ian Anderson on vocals and flute, David Goodier on bass, John O’Hara on keys, Florian Opahle on guitar, Scott Hammond on drums and more “surprise virtual guests.”
Tickets go on sale Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. local time.
Jethro Tull’s first gig was in February 1968, which passed auspiciously this year, and they did their first North American gigs the following year.
“I am not usually a birthday or anniversary kind of guy but, just for once, I won’t be a party-pooper either! I treasure the memories of the earlier years of Jethro Tull repertoire, associated as it is with the adventures of visiting so many countries for the first time to connect with new fans around the world,” Anderson said at the time of the tour’s announcement. “And this is a celebration of all the 33 band members who graced our ranks – musicians who brought their talents, skills and styles to bear on the performances live and in the studio. Join me and the current band for a nostalgic evening of varied music, representative of my ever-changing songwriting as our careers progressed through the years.”
Ian Anderson reported a good number of dates in 2018, including a gross of $441,790 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, his highest on the year. Another highlight was June 9 in Troutdale, Ore., where he grossed $252,195 at McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheater.
