Ibiza’s Nightclubs To Reopen In April

The island is set to open its nightlife season a couple of weeks earlier than usual.

Ibiza’s world-renowned nightclubs could be opening their doors earlier than usual. José Luis Benítez, manager of leisure association Ocio de Ibiza, told Diario de Ibiza, “the idea is that the opening will be at the end of April, two weeks ahead of what is normally done,” and “to [remain open] until October, November if all goes well.”

The paper met Benítez at Spain’s annual tourism trade fare FITUR, which runs Jan. 19-23 in Madrid. There it also got a statement from Iago Negueruela, the Balearic tourism minister, who said, “this summer, the discotheques will be able to open. The COVID passport serves as a security tool.”
According to Benítez Ibiza’s major nightlife businesses have been working all winter to prepare for the 2022 season. He said they could operate viably even with the current 65% capacity limit, COVID passport requirement, and the separation of dance and drink areas in place. As long as no other restrictions are added or existing restrictions are loosened, “the season will be in full swing,” he said.
Usually the Ibiza clubbing season kicks off in May. The fact that the International Music Summit, one of the most important gatherings of the electronic music scene in the world, has moved its dates from May to April suggests that the island’s decision makers and live professionals are serious about the early start, which would help make up for two lost years. 
One of the world’s most famous dance clubs, Amnesia Ibiza, today announced its opening party for May 21. The lineup will be announced soon.
