Acclaimed Grammy and six-time Latin Grammy winners Jesse & Joy are partnering with UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, to put together “Electrify The Vote!” a series of intimate acoustic performances in California, Texas, and Arizona.
“We have chosen to work with UnidosUS because they are a trusted, nonpartisan voice for all Latinos,” Jesse Huerta said in the announcement. “Together, this November we want to electrify the vote!  The voice of the community is a much-needed force in our democracy. Each one of us can be a change-maker, and one way to do it is to turn up our voice in the voting booth. In the last election 12 million Latinos voted. We can double that because there are 12 million more Latinos eligible to register, and every year nearly a million more turn 18 and become eligible.  Let’s give each other a hand. Go to BecomeAVoter.org to register or help someone do it. Because in unity there is strength, and together we can double the strength of our vote!”
The Mexican-American siblings embark on this series with the purpose of using their voices to bring attention to the vital need for people, especially Latinos, to register to vote as well as actually vote.
“We are asking our fans to join us and Turn up your voice!” Joy Huerta added. “No matter what issue is more important to you — health care, immigration, education or jobs — each one of us needs to do our part to be part of the change we want to see.
“The United States is a powerful country because of its people, because of the strength of its diversity and because diversity makes us stronger. We must use every tool at our disposal — voting is one of them.”
The vote-getting effort comes in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration policies separating families at the U.S.-Mexico border and his continued insistence on building a wall separating the two countries to curtail illegal immigration.
The Hispanic Heritage Foundation honored Jesse & Joy at the 31st Hispanic Heritage Awards Presented by Target Sept. 12. They were awarded the Vision Award during the ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts In Washington, D.C., with a primetime national PBS special about the show set for broadcast Sept. 28.
Jesse & Joy also took the stage at the event recognizing Latino talent to perform “Un Besito Más,” which has become an anthem in the fight for immigrant rights and to stop family separations.
Jesse & Joy have toured recently as support for Marco Antonio Solis in arenas as well as headline dates mostly in the Southwestern U.S. and Latin America. Boxoffice reports submitted to Pollstar (headline shows) include May 12 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City, which sold 12,467 tickets and grossed $274,208, Feb. 24 at the Gran Arena Monticello in Chile (3,575 tickets, $226,550) and Oct. 7 at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theatre in Austin, which sold 1,019 tickets and grossed $46,635.
