Jimmy Buffett Concert Postponed

Jimmy Buffett’s free concert on the Gulf Coast has been rescheduled thanks to Tropical Storm Alex.

“CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends Live From The Gulf Coast” takes place at Gulf Shores Public Beach in Alabama, with sets from Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Allen Toussaint, Sonny Landreth and Jesse Winchester.

The “Margaritaville” Man and his buddies are putting on the concert to show support to Gulf Coast residents and businesses affected by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. All 35,000 free tickets were snatched up within 10 minutes June 23.

After originally being scheduled for July 1, the concert has been pushed back to July 11. Although Tropical Storm Alex is not viewed as a threat to the Alabama coast, Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said increased surf conditions could make the stage unstable.

“This is a disappointment, obviously, but Jimmy Buffett is still coming to the Gulf Coast on July 11, and tickets will be honored at that time,” Craft said.

“Nobody hates this more than I do but I guess, as the song says, it’s hard to reason with hurricane season,” Buffett said in a statement on his website. “For those going anyway, thank you. My sister Lulu will take good care of you. For the rest of you, we will see you July 11th!”
