Khalid tweeted Monday that he is planning a benefit concert for his hometown of El Paso, Texas, following the mass shooting that left at least 21 dead there on Saturday.

“Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy. Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking. Singing “915” and “city of El Paso” on tour every night feels indescribable,” the 21-year-old musician tweeted.

“Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city,” Khalid continued. “I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting. Sending everyone my love and will keep you guys updated.”

Khalid also expressed condolences for the mass shooting that took place on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio.

Helping those in need has played a central role in Khalid’s brief career. “1-800-273-8255,” his 2017 collaboration with Logic and Alessia Cara, raised awareness for the American National Suicide Prevention Hotline; peaking at No. 3 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, the song also stands tied as Khalid’s highest-charting single to date.

Khalid, who appeared on Pollstar‘s cover in April, has repeatedly placed his fans and community first. “I want to make sure that my relationship with my fans is genuine, that they know that I genuinely care about them and that they can come to me and they can ask me questions and they can talk to me,” he said at Pollstar Live! earlier this year.”

Khalid is currently on his first arena headlining tour, in support of his second album Free Spirit, released in April. The U.S. leg wraps in Miami on Aug. 17; after a brief break, the tour resumes overseas in Hamburg, Germany, on Sept. 9.
