Buku Music + Art Project put Lil Uzi Vert on full blast for not showing up to his headlining gig at the festival, projecting a message on stage placing full blame on the rapper.
“Lil Uzi is still in Philadelphia and decided not to come at the last minute. There is no reason,” the message from organizers, as reported by multiple Twitter users read. “He just canceled on us with no advance notice.”
The message went on to say that a portion of his fee would be donated to charity and that his spot would be filled by Gryffin. It closed with the plea: “Support artists who support their fans.”
Later on Twitter Buku organizers further explained, “Uzi just bailed on us. No reason, he just wouldn’t leave Philly. We put our all into planning this and it sucks when these guys pull out at the last minute.”
Uzi didn’t seem to have any comment on the matter on his various social media pages at press time. Pollstar reached out to his representatives for comment.
For his part, Gryffin seemed to enjoy his time, tweeting, “Woke up in NOLA with the flu, showed up to @thebukuproject and was asked to play Lil Uzi’s mainstage slot bc he cancelled last minute.  Ended up playing in btwn @Illeniummusic & @bassnectar for my first show in NOLA, & I couldn’t be happier with how it went. Buku u rock.”
Uzi pulled out of the 16*29 tour with Playboi Carti shortly after it was announced last year, stating he needed to focus. Still, he is hugely popular, and his agent previously told Pollstar the first time those two went on tour together, tickets sold out in just a few days.
Lil Uzi Vert remains a fixture on the Elite 100 chart and has headline dates booked in the U.S. and the U.K. His next performance is scheduled to take place at Beach Bash Music Fest in South Padre Island, Texas, March 14.
