Metallica and MCR-Topped Aftershock Festival Unveils 2021 Lineup, Adds Fourth Day Headlined By Limp Bizkit

Festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents will once again bring Aftershock to Discovery Park in Sacramento, Calif, expanding to four days Oct. 7-10 and still topped by Metallica and My Chemical Romance as previously announced.

The new Thursday night for the event, presented by Jack Daniel’s, will be headlined by Limp Bizkit in “an epic celebratory evening to kick off the anticipated return of the festival that has sold out for the last five consecutive years.”

As previously announced, Aftershock 2021 will be headlined by Metallica (performing two unique sets, one on Friday and one on Sunday) and My Chemical Romance (Saturday), who were both confirmed for the sold-out postponed 2020 event.

Other artists on the lineup include Rancid, The Offspring, Social Distortion, Rise Against, Volbeat, Machine Gun Kelly, Mastodon, Gojira, SEETHER, Parkway Drive, and many more.

Rancid said, “We can’t wait to play at Aftershock 2021 with our Bay Area brothers Metallica. We first played with them on the Lollapalooza tour in 1996 along with the Ramones and later down the road we toured across South America together. It’s gonna be wild, see ya in the pit!”

Single-day general admission starts at $119.50 while three-day passes start at $329.50 plus fees.

Although sidelined by the coronavirus pandemic, Danny Wimmer Presents has remained aggressive and active following the February news that the company had received “substantial” investment from Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa companies and was in acquisition mode. The company has produced a drive-in tour headlined by Aaron Lewis and Sully Erna, as well as co-produced Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor’s headline livestream performance at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Joe Litvag, who recently joined DWP as president of live events, told Pollstar recently that the promoter would be delving into national tours.

“We know the artists that we’ve got closest relationships with, and we’re going to be there for artists that are looking for an alternative to the more typically known touring players,” Litvag said at the time. “The two biggest things DWP has to offer are, number one, our expertise and our relationships. Number two is our base of loyal fans for all the company’s current business. We’ve got significant credibility in the rock space and we’ve been approached by some artists about getting involved with them on a touring level. It’s another thing that I’ve got some experience in. As those opportunities arise, we want to take advantage of them.”

The news also comes as California politicians have given some guidance regarding outdoor events, with sporting events able to reopen at 20% now in counties that have entered the “orange” tier of the state’s tiered reopening system, the second-least restrictive.
