Not even Christmas is safe from the COVID-19 pandemic, as MSG Entertainment has announced the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, presented by Chase, will not take place in 2020 – the events first cancellation since 1933.
“We regret that the 2020 production of the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, presented by Chase, has been canceled due to continued uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,” MSG Entertainment said in a statement. “We are disappointed for everyone involved with the show, as well as for the many fans who make the Christmas Spectacular a cherished part of their holiday tradition.”
All tickets sold for the 2020 event will be refunded at the original point of purchase. Tickets to the 2021 production are on sale now.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is big businesses as it ran from Nov. 8 to Jan. 5 at Radio City Music Hall in 2019 with nearly 200 shows reported, more than 1 million tickets sold and nearly $100 million grossed.
New York has been hit extremely hard during the COVID-19 pandemic as the office of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reported today that the statewide total number of cases has reached 417,589.
