New Daisy Theatre Readies For Reopening

Memphis’ New Daisy Theatre is prepping for its close up as the longtime concert venue plans to reopen its doors following an extensive renovation.  On hand to help celebrate grand opening weekend will be Paul Thorn, Ben Rector and Judah & The Lion.

Although entertainment is scheduled through the end of this month, the grand opening along with a rededication of the building at its historic Beale Street location happens Oct. 17.

In Memphis, Tenn.

Constructed in 1942 as a movie house, the venue eventually evolved into a live performance hall.  Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, Jack White and Dave Matthews are just a few of the acts that have appeared on the New Daisy Theatre stage during its 73-year history.

State-of-the-art lighting and sound systems are just some of the new features included in the building’s rehab. One new addition is the multi-level Big Star VIP Room, which includes multiple lounges, reserved seating, a private entrance and individualized service.  While access is restricted to membership, a small number of passes will be sold to invited guests with a portion of the proceeds going to Musicians Healthcare.

“Restoring the New Daisy has been a labor of love over the last year, and we’re excited about the opportunities it presents for the live music fans of the mid-South,” Steve Adelman, whose restoration projects include Los Angeles’ Avalon Hollywood, said.

“Our initial lineup certainly has accomplished what we set out to do, that being offering a little something for everyone, broadening the Memphis music base.  I don’t know of a venue in the country where you can experience SoMo, Public Image, Borgore, The Vaudevillians, and Steve Earle, all within a few weeks of each other.”
