Panorama Takes Hiatus For 2019

Panorama Festival – Panorama Festival

Those waiting on a lineup or onsale info for Panorama Music Festival will have to stay patient, because organizers have said the event is going on hiatus for 2019.

Put on by AEG/Goldenvoice, Panorama staged three times at Randall’s Island in New York from 2016 to 2018, though last year’s edition saw some of the first day called off due to inclement weather, nixing sets by The Weeknd, Migos, and The War On Drugs.

“Panorama will be taking a hiatus in 2019 while we continue discussions with NYC Parks to bring the festival to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, where it was originally envisioned,” a statement first provided to Billboard read. “We had a fantastic experience with Paul Simon this past September at Flushing Meadows and look forward to returning in the future.”

“We were disappointed in NYC Parks denial of our permit application despite the long term benefits this event would deliver to the community and the park.

“While we have enjoyed our time on Randall’s Island and its great facilities, we feel that we have achieved all that we can at this site. We look forward to continued conversations with City Parks to explore making the Flushing Meadows site a reality.”

Panorama was in fairly direct competition with Governors Ball Music Festival (put on by Live Nation-partner Founders Entertainment), which also stages at Randall’s Island. Panorama ran July 27-29 in 2018, with The Weeknd, Janet Jackson, and The Killers billed as headliners. Governors Ball ran June 1-3, with Jack White, Travis Scott, and Eminem in the top slots.

Gov-Ball promoter Jordan Wolowitz of Founders Entertainment recently explained to Pollstar how an NYC fest tackles higher cost of living, production expenses and the fact that the radius clause often keeps artists out of their most profitable headline market. The 2019 edition of that event will feature The Strokes, Florence + The Machine, and Tyler, The Creator as headliners.
