Peter Frampton Announces Farewell Tour

Peter Frampton Finale – The Farewell Tour
– Peter Frampton Finale – The Farewell Tour

Peter Frampton is saying goodbye to the road with an excursion stretching from June through October dubbed “Peter Frampton Finale – The Farewell Tour.”

Presented by SiriusXM and produced by Live Nation, the tour features special guest Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening, along with Frampton’s son Julian Frampton on the West Coast stops. Today’s announcement promises that surprise guests will appear on select dates.
The tour is sure to feature Frampton’s biggest hits such as “Show Me The Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do” and “Baby, I Love Your Way.” The singles are included on the legendary guitarist’s fifth solo album, Frampton Comes Alive!, which recently celebrated its 43rd anniversary and remains one of the top-selling live records of all time with over 17 million copies sold worldwide.
“A year before Frampton Comes Alive! we had released the studio version of ‘Show Me The Way’ as a single … and it totally tanked,” Frampton told MusicRadar. “It was pretty strange to put out the live version and watch it go through the roof. It was still the same song. What had changed? AOR was the big radio format at the time. And they were playing Frampton Comes Alive! like crazy. If you put on an AOR station – any station – you’d hear pretty much all the songs from that record.”
Was it strange? Or did the success of the live version simply demonstrate the power of live music?

Rolling Stone included the release on its list of 50 Greatest Live Albums Of All Time. David Menconi writes, “In the summer of ’76, nothing was in the air like Frampton Comes Alive!, the ultimate example of the double-live album with gatefold cover. ‘Baby, I Love Your Way,’ ‘Show Me the Way’ and most of all ‘Do You Feel Like We Do’ came to life in the live setting (all 14 minutes of it). Even the crowd noise sounds sensational.”

Over the years Frampton, who got his start at 16 as the singer/guitarist for The Herd and then co-founded Humble Pie at age 18, has toured with David Bowie, Stevie Nicks, Greg Allman, Ringo Starr, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, and Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. His touring days have also boasted two years on the road with Peter Frampton’s Guitar Circus, featuring special guests B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Vince Gill, Larry Carlton, Robert Randolph, Don Felder (formerly of The Eagles), Dean DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Sonny Landreth, Robert Cray and Roger McGuinn (the Byrds).

Frampton has stayed busy on stage, including playing dozens of shows last year with Steve Miller Band. Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for 2018 include 30 headline reports with an average of 4,378 tickets sold per night and an average gross of $268,055.
