Phish Announces Another Madison Square Garden New Year’s Run

For the fifth consecutive year, and ninth out of the last 10, Phish will ring in the new year at Madison Square Garden.

The beloved jam band announced a four-night run at the Manhattan arena Tuesday that will culminate on New Year’s Eve. It’s the fourth year in a row that Phish will play the Garden Dec. 28-31; the band also played MSG on the final four nights of the year in 1998, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

A request period for tickets, which are priced at $100 for general admission and $90 for reserved seating, is currently underway and ends Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. ET.

Phish’s 2019 New Year’s Eve gig will mark the 13th time the band has played Madison Square Garden to end the year. The December run will also feature Phish’s 61st through 64th shows at the venue, which place behind only Billy Joel and Elton John.

The band’s four-night year-ending Madison Square Garden stands have been among their most lucrative gigs, recently generating total grosses of $5.4 million (2016), $5.9 million (2017) and $6.3 million (2018). The arena also famously hosted Phish’s “baker’s dozen” 13-night stand, which grossed $15 million in summer 2017.

This year has been another busy one for Phish, which has grossed $20.5 million in 2019, according to Pollstar Boxoffice reports. Highlights have included three headlining sets over two nights at Bonnaroo and a two-night stand at Boston’s Fenway Park, which grossed $4.9 million.

The remarkably consistent live act has placed on Pollstar‘s Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart every year this decade, with annual worldwide grosses ranging between $26.4 million (2015) and $38.9 million (2018), and averaging $31.6 million.

Beyond December’s Madison Square Garden gigs, Phish has seven East Coast tour dates on the books between Nov. 29 and Dec. 8.

The band’s guitarist and singer Trey Anastasio has also remained an active force on the road separate from Phish, who has performed with Trey Anastasio Band, new band Ghosts of the Forest and solo in 2019. Anastasio embarks on a solo tour next month that includes a night at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and two nights at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Meanwhile, Vida Blue, the trio comprised of Phish keyboardist Page McConnell, Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge and Meters drummer Russell Batiste, staged its first shows in 15 years earlier this month, playing Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club, The Fillmore Philadelphia and The Capitol Theatre, in Port Chester, N.Y. Phish bassist Mike Gordon also toured solo in 2019.
