A New Jersey man operating under the guise of a concert promoter was charged for drug trafficking after he was busted for smuggling thousands of pounds of marijuana hidden in subwoofers from the West Coast to New York.

An investigation led by New Jersey Authorities dubbed “Operation Loud Speaker” ended with the arrest of 38-year-old Oscar Holguin, his 29-year-old girlfriend Paul Amador and 27-year-old accomplice Natalie Stojano, according to Yonkers Daily Voice. The sting also led to the seizure of nearly 100 pounds of marijuana stowed away in speakers at several locations in New York and New Jersey.

The investigation began when Bergen County, N.J., authorities received a tip regarding suspicious packages that were being shipped via FedEx.

“Traveling under the guise of a music promoter, Holguin made weekly trips to an area north of San Francisco, Calif., known for production of marijuana in outdoor grow facilities,” Bergen County prosecutor Dennis Calo told the paper.

Holguin purchased large amounts of cannabis at wholesale value price from the Northern California region known as the “Emerald Triangle,” stashed them in speakers and shipped them to various locations in New York and New Jersey.

Authorities said Holguin and his accomplices used this method to ship thousands of pounds of marijuana over a span of three to four years.

More arrests are expected to be made in the case, Calo told the paper.
