Pussy Riot is inviting all like-minded fans who are fighting the good fight for human rights to rally with the group at its upcoming North American tour.

Following a couple dates here and there the past few years, the spring outing is being called the
feminist art collective’s “first live music performance art tour through America.”
The gigs – described as “an extremely politicized marriage of performance art and a concert” are scattered across the U.S., starting with two nights at Chicago’s Subterranean March 6-7.
The group has one show planned in Mexico – an appearance at Vive Latino in Mexico City – and a stop in Canada at Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre. Other festival gigs include Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala., and Boston Calling.
The tour also includes multiple stops in California, as well as two nights in Portland, Ore., and Seattle. Tickets are available now. More dates are expected to be added.
Pussy Riot gained worldwide attention in 2012 when it performed “Virgin Mary, Put Putin Away” – aka a punk prayer – in Moscow’s Savior’s Cathedral. Members Maria Alyokhina, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and sentence to two-year prison sentences, according to The Guardian.
Samutsevich’s sentence was suspended after a few months and the other women were released after 21 months. Lusine Djanyan and Aleksej Knedljakovskji have filed for political asylum in Sweden in response to receiving death threats in Russia.
Pussy Riot’s endeavors include launching Mediazona, a “free-of-censorship independent Russian media agency focusing on law enforcement issues like conditions in prisons and prosecution of political activists.”
