Rave Family’s ‘Electric Blockaloo’ Minecraft Festival To Feature 300+ Electronic Artists, Diplo, A-Trak, TOKiMONSTA

Electric Blockaloo
– Electric Blockaloo

Rave Family is producing the first “Electric Blockaloo” in-game Minecraft virtual dance music festival, with real electronic music star power and featuring blocked replicas of Red Rocks, The Gorge, a Dirtybird Campout and more June 25-28.

More than 300 artists will play the popular building-block game that has become a staple for all ages and even has an educational version widely used by school districts. The initial lineup includes stage hosts such as Diplo’s Higher Ground, A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold, Claude VonStroke’s DIRTYBIRD Records, along with label collectives including Desert Hearts as well as TOKiMONSTA and The Lost Resort.
All of Minecraft’s 112 million active monthly users can sign up to attend, while non-Minecraft users can view the festival on the club website via artist livestreams. The festival is 18+ admission, however.
In order to attend, fans have to get on an artist’s guest list, from which they will purchase a ticket. There’s a 60/40 revenue share model that allows artists to monetize their own ticket sales for the event. With the innovative approach, Rave Family and Electric Blockaloo hope to help pave the way for how the music industry can earn revenue while the live sector remains mostly shuttered.
“Everyone asked us, ‘What’s the new normal?’” Rave Family founder Jackie McGuire says in a statement, “and that normal is one without large festivals for the foreseeable future. Electric Blockaloo is a place where artists and fans can come together, create shared musical experiences, and reconnect with each other in an immersive way. It’s also much more environmentally friendly than traditional festivals, and a portion of each ticket will help support Bye Bye Plastic, an amazing organization that aims to eliminate single-use plastic from music festivals by 2025.”
McGuire is CEO of the first all-female team to win the TechCrunch Hackathon, in 2018.
This won’t be the first Minecraft festival post-COVID-19, as the Block By Block West event took place May 16, with artists including Fever 333, Knocked Loose, Idles, Pussy Riot, Hunny, Sir Sly and others. That event was produced by Courier Club and Digital Ocean.
