David  Deporis, 40, was sitting outside an Oakland café and working on his laptop when somebody snatched it and took off in a waiting Audi SUV, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Witnesses said Deporis ran after the car and grabbed on to it. He was dragged down the street until he slipped underneath the vehicle and was run over.

Deporis had all of his unpublished music on the laptop, according to friends.

Deporis was rushed to a hospital where he later died, the paper said.

Friend Chris Vogel said Deporis was well-liked and focused on a career in music.

“His friends and his music are everything to him, and that’s probably why he was as gung-ho about getting his computer back as he was,” Vogel told the Chronicle. “All of his music was recorded on his computer, and most everyone else would have let it go.”
