Shakira El Dorado Tour Start Postponed To Paris

Shakira had to postpone the first show of her El Dorado World Tour, Nov. 8, in Cologne, Germany, saying she strained her vocal cords during rehearsals. The Nov. 10-11 Paris dates remain unaffected, a venue rep told Pollstar.

Shakira’s El Dorado World Tour was supposed to kick off at Cologne’s 18,500 capacity Lanxess Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 8. However, as the singer wrote on Facebook, “during these last few days of rehearsals, I have unfortunately strained my vocal cords and as a result, my doctors have ordered me to go on vocal rest to avoid any greater damage that could keep me from performing.”

The show at Lanxess Arena will be postponed. “We recommend concert goers keep their tickets while we’re working on an alternative date,” a statement from promoter Live Nation reads.

Pollstar reached out to the AccorHotels Arena, where the tour is supposed to hit Nov. 10-11. A spokesperson confirmed, “the Shakira concerts are still going ahead at the AccorHotels Arena on November 10 and 11.”
Shakira’s last went on tour in 2010-11. The Sun Comes Out World Tour started on Sept. 15, 2010, at Montreal’s Bell Centre, and wrapped Oct. 14-15, 2011, with two shows at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan.

The 100-plus-date world tour also stopped at Lanxess Arena on Dec. 11, 2010, and at AccorHotels Arena for two shows, June 13-14, 2011.

Since her last tour, Shakira released two albums, Shakira and El Dorado. Both will take center stage during her El Dorado World Tour, which now commences on Friday in Paris. It will end on Feb. 10, 2018, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Over the course of 138 box office reports to Pollstar, Shakira has averaged 16,954 tickets sold and $1,077,667 gross.
