The Mavericks Celebrate 30 Years With A World Tour, ‘Unique” Staging

The Mavericks
– The Mavericks

Tejano phenoms The Mavericks are celebrating their 30th year on the road, performing what’s promised to be a unique version of their live show that incorporates special staging and narrative elements to reimagine the group’s history from its genesis in the Miami punk and alternative scene up to the present.

The Mavs kick off the tour in Europe, culminating in a June 28 appearance at Glastonbury. They’ll return Stateside on July 5 at Harrah’s AK-Chin in Maricopa, Ariz., and traverse North America through a three-night stand the famed Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, Nov. 8-10. In between, they’ll make stops at indoor and outdoor venues, including Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass., and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

The shows will tell the story of the Mavericks, including the way they’ve intertwined American roots music by way traditional Tex-Mex, Latino, Norteno and Tejano stitched together with country, rock ‘n’ roll and even the Great American Songbook, from which the band has taken its inspiration.

I’m not one to look back, I never have been,” says co-founder, singer and key songwriter Raul Malo. “I always want to move forward with our music and look to the future, and our fans want that too — they always respond really well to every new album.

“But if you can’t celebrate 30 years in such a tough business as the music industry, what can you celebrate? I’m proud that we’ve made our mark and it’s good to celebrate that. I think we’ve found the perfect way to mark these 30 years without thinking only about the past and I’m really excited to get out and play these shows.”

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through The Mavericks website
