‘Volunteer Jam: A Musical Salute To Charlie Daniels’ Rescheduled For August, More Artists Added

The Volunteer Jam has been pushed back once again because of the coronavirus pandemic, with the new date set for Aug. 18 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. In the meantime, organizers have added six more artists to the star-studded lineup including Randy Travis, Chris Young, Michael W. Smith, Lorrie Morgan, Exile and Anthony Castagna. 

The concert was initially scheduled for September 2020 and then postponed to Feb. 22.  After Charlie Daniels passed away in July 2020 at age 83, the show was renamed in his honor as the “2021 Volunteer Jam: A Musical Salute to Charlie Daniels.”

“As much as we are disappointed that we have to move the Volunteer Jam, we appreciate the fans sticking with us,” Daniels’ longtime manager David Corlew said in a statement. “We want to make sure everyone stays safe.”

The lineup features The Marshall Tucker Band, ALABAMA, Ricky Skaggs, Trace Adkins, Larry, Steve & Rudy: The Gatlin Brothers, Cece Winans, Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy, Delbert McClinton, Keb’ Mo’, The Outlaws, 38 Special, Junior Brown, The Allman Betts Band, Cedric Burnside, Jenny Tolman, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Travis Denning, Mickey Gilley, Johnny Lee, Rhett Akins, Scooter Brown Band, The SteelDrivers, Pure Prairie League and comedian Dusty Slay. Daniels’ longtime band, The Charlie Daniels Band, will also help pay tribute to the beloved artist. 

Previously purchased tickets will be honored at the rescheduled show in August. Tickets are on sale now. 

“2021 Volunteer Jam: A Musical Salute to Charlie Daniels” is produced by Outback Presents in association with David Corlew and Associates and Conway Entertainment Group.

The Charlie Daniels Band held the first Volunteer Jam in 1974 at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium. The band planned to record two songs for Daniels’ Fire On The Mountain album and invited friends and musical colleagues – aka “volunteers” – to jam after the recording session. CDB was joined by Dickey Betts from the Allman Brothers Band, and Toy Caldwell, Jerry Eubanks and Paul Riddle from the Marshall Tucker Band. 

The next year Daniels & Co. hosted the Jam at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and a tradition was born. Standout editions over the years included the 1986 Volunteer Jam that boasted the reunion of the Allman Brothers Band, the 1987 Jam, in which some performances were broadcast on the Jerry Lewis Telethon, and Daniels’ 80th birthday Volunteer Jam in 2016.
